Loving God

Sociologists have a theory of the looking-glass self: you become what the most important person in your life (wife, father, boss, etc.) thinks you are. How would my life change if I truly believed the Bible's astounding words about God's love for me, if I looked in the mirror and saw what God sees? Philip Yancey

God loves you.  Do you ever really think about that statement?  God created you in his image to be loved by Him.  He also created us to love Him.  How many times do we wander away from Him looking for something we think is better.  Have you figured out yet that there is nothing in this world that is better than God and His love for us? There is nothing and no one in this world that we can pursue that can ever make us feel the love that God has for us.

When God decided to create us, he also decided to love us.  His love is never ending.  Nothing can separate us from God’s love.  What can separate us from God is our choices in life.  When we pursue anything but God, we will be disappointed.

On Sunday our Pastor spoke about the things we pursue in this life.  The reason we pursue external things is because we feel there is something missing in our life.  We think that something in this world is going to make us happy, so we pursue it and then we are disappointed and we go in search of something else.

Have you figured out yet that God is “THE” love of your life?  He is the ultimate love.  He can love us better than anyone else in this world.  His love tops all loves.  I like to think of worldly love as greener grass.  The grass looks greener on the other side until you get there.  When you get there what do you find?  It’s filled with bare patches and weeds.  If we stay in God’s pasture what do we find; an abundance of green sweet grass? God’s love is the only one that never changes.  What you see is what you get.

How many times do we give away God’s love for something that can’t even compare?  We do it daily. We pursue something in this world that we think will bring us the ultimate happiness.  When we do this we have missed the most important love in this world.  Our main purpose in life is to love God first because that is what we were made for.  If we want a true picture of what love is we don’t need to look any further than Jesus Christ.  He died for you and me so that we could live forever with Him through eternity.  God adopted each of us into His family.  Why would we throw that away for something of this world?

Prayer for the Day: Heavenly Father, it is often hard for me to understand Your love because the love I see in this world is like comparing apples to oranges.  When I can’t see Your love for me I tend to wander away from you in search of the very thing you are waiting to give me.  The most precious love in the world is waiting for me if I will just turn to You.  Thank you for loving me beyond measure.

Scripture: Seeing God Through Love

No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.  1 John 4:12-16
