Would You Buy It?

“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”
― John Piper
It never ceases to amaze me what people will buy, me included.  I was yet again watching the news this morning and here is a new one.  Because Japan’s pollution is so bad, there is now a guy who has invented cans of air.  You can buy one for 80 cents.  This guy is going to make money on selling air.  My question is where did he get the air? Did he travel out of the country to get clean air, is it imported clean air, or is he just selling Japanese polluted air.

I am sure we can all remember things from our past that we paid money for that didn’t live up to our expectations.  Remember the pet rock.  You could buy a rock that came in a box pet carrier with holes cut in it for air.  It came with a nest inside and you got to name it.  It also came with a care and training manual.  This one was created by a guy who went to a bar with friends and after hearing them complain about their real pets he created the easy care pet rock.
How about mood rings?  I had one back in the day.  It was supposed to be able to detect your mood when wearing it.  I guess it was really for other people to detect your bad mood and steer clear.  There was even a Peanuts cartoon where Peppermint Patty got so mad at Charlie Brown that her mood ring exploded.

There are so many things today that don’t live up to our expectations.  We see something we think will make us happy or give us fulfillment in life and they always disappoint.  There is nothing here on earth that will ever satisfy our need for love, peace, hope, joy or happiness except God.  He is the only one who can satisfy the need in us. The thing is God created that need in us and we can only be fulfilled if we turn to Him.
Prayer for the Day: Heavenly Father, I am guilty of buying into some of the world’s silly inventions.  Those things that claim to guarantee happiness, fulfillment and joy.  Remind me that You are the only One who can fulfill my every need.  Help me to understand Your great worth and that You alone can satisfy the longing in my heart.

Scripture:   “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.  Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David.  Isaiah 55:1-3
